I am scheduled to appear on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” program Thursday at 3 p.m. Eastern. The subject is gays in sports in conjunction with October being gay and lesbian history month. Former lacrosse player Andrew Goldstein is also scheduled to appear. I am not sure what their angle is yet.

ESPN the Magazine’s Body Issue is finally out, and there’s plenty of what they promised: Skin. Shockingly, the magazine seems to feature as many men as women. Yes, shocking. What’s unfortunate is that some of our advertisers tell us they will pull their advertising if we feature the same exact photos that ESPN is allowed [...]

I’ve moaned in the past that gay publications don’t cover sports enough, so here’s some recognition of one that did recently. The latest issue of Australian gay mag AXN features an article and full compliment of photos on Sydney-based gay sports teams. They have profiles of at least five sports: rugby, soccer, basketball, tennis and [...]

We have featured Bjorn Barrefors before. He is a 21-year-old Swede who competes in the decathlon for the University of Nebraska (he has his own Twitter feed). What caught our eye were these images of Barrefors at the recent European Combined meet in Poland taken by the awesome Trackpic. They’re from Barrefors tossing the discus.

From the Sporting News, via Deadspin, comes this profile of Georgia QB Joe Cox answering some questions (he likes Greek chicken wings and Halle Berry) and wearing a very tight uniform that leaves little to the imagination. Photo below not necessarily safe for work even though it appears in a mainstream pub:

Roger Federer becomes the first man to win 15 Grand Slam titles. Virtually every commentator talking about it dubs him “the greatest men’s tennis player of all time.” The match that puts him over the top ends with a 16-14 tiebreak in the fifth set of Wimbledon, the sport’s crowning glory. And days later, Sports [...]

That’s right, according to the crew of Fox & Friends, the recent cold bug that’s been going around the Yankees clubhouse is because they all get naked and shower together.

Check out the back page of today’s Philadelphia Daily News after the jump — specifically, the bottom left-hand corner of the page (although the “Rockin’ Raul!” stuff is pretty exciting, unless you’re a Mets fan)…

The folks at Spike TV are having a sexy athlete contest, and I guess they assume that 100% of their male audience is straight the way the contest is billed:
Back for its 3rd year, Spike’s Guys Choice is asking you once again to vote on all that’s important to men everywhere.

Last year, one or two of you may recall, I watched and reviewed for this blog a broadcast of every major league baseball team as well as ESPN, TBS and Fox. Generally, I was (and continue to be) disdainful of the “new-school” announcers who are too busy being clever and cracking one-liners instead of concentrating [...]

Nikki Allen was making her debut on live television and was on Panama City, Florida’s WMBB morning show explaining what was going on in the beach volleyball community. Then… kaboom.
So that’s got to suck. Fainting on live TV and having your friend just gawk at you on the ground while the reporters desperately scramble to [...]

Never one to pass by a Matthew Mitcham story without stopping, I caught a new interview the Olympic swimming stud has with a gay media outlet in which he talks about coming out, a lack of endorsements and — this is fresh material — his role as Ambassador for Men’s Health in Australia.
“Obviously my niche, [...]

The Advocate is showcasing a video of one of their reporters with the Los Angeles Frontrunners. In April 2007, Los Angeles Times sportswriter Mike Penner became Christine Daniels, announcing in a column that he was transitioning to she. Last October, Daniels ditched her chosen name and became a man again, writing under the name Mike Penner. It was a confusing re-transition for many, and USA Today this week has tackled the [...]
