Hudson Taylor video: It gets better

Outsports readers are very familiar with Hudson Taylor, the champion University of Maryland wrestler (now an assistant coach at Columbia) who is a huge champion of gay rights. Taylor is one of those people we can count on in our fight for equality and acceptance. He’s at it again, recording a video for the “It [...]

Is The Rock a stereotypical ‘gay biker’?

We now know how CBS’ Bleacher Report thinks gay bikers look, as they rip on The Rock’s sports fandom. I’m not sure if it’s the bald head, the goatee, or the little tanktop, but for some reason this is the image of a gay biker at CBS Sports. Or maybe it’s the pointless rambling of [...]

Hudson Taylor: Why do you fight for gay rights?

When I profiled University of Maryland wrestler Hudson Taylor and his fight for gay rights in February, he was overwhelmed by the reaction he received. Having a champion straight athlete make a public stand on such as issue  struck a chord with a lot of people. From the 400 e-mails and countless stories he heard, [...]

Castro gays wrestle in oil for Gulf wildlife

Some gay men in San Francisco found an excuse to wrestle one another in oil on the streets of the Castro this weekend. Their reason: To raise money for wildlife in the Gulf of Mexico. “How noble is that?” one man commented, as he watched the spectacle from across the street. “It’s not just gratuitous [...]

Taylor Lautner wants to play wrestler in remake

Taylor Lautner, he of “Twilight” shirtless fame, is negotiating to play a wrestler in a remake of the film “Vision Quest,” that first starred Matthew Modine and featured Madonna singing “Crazy for You.” This will mean a lot of screen time (if the producers have a clue) of Lautner working out and getting all sweaty, [...]

Chris Kanyon, out former wrestler, dies

Sad news came in this weekend about the apparent suicide of openly gay former pro wrestler Chris Kanyon on Friday. Kanyon was a former tagteam champion with the WCW and WWE and came out publicly soon after he left the WWE in 2004. He was a popular guest on the Howard Stern Show, but he [...]

Ric Flair doesn’t want a gay around wrestling?

It seems not everybody at TNA is happy to have a bisexual character who flirts with hot young blondes. Another (formerly hot young) blonde, Ric Flair, allegedly confronted the lust object of bisexual TNA wrestler Orlando Jones and showed his displeasure in having a fag around the wrestling ring (BTW, the picture to the right [...]

TNA misfires with bi-zarre bi-sexual wrestler

Between my high school and college years I was an avid pro wrestling fan. I wouldn’t miss a show. But in all those years of guys grabbing at each other’s naked bodies, I never saw anything as strange as what I saw Monday night on TNA Impact. It was supposed to be the coming out [...]

Hudson Taylor wins ACC wrestling title

University of Maryland wrestler Hudson Taylor, profiled on Outsports for his strong support of gay rights, won the 197-pound class at the ACC wrestling championships on Saturday and was named outstanding wrestler. Taylor, ranked third nationally in his weight class, won the title by pinning Dennis Drury of North Carolina at the 4:10 mark. Taylor [...]

College wrestler a champion of gay rights

University of Maryland wrestler Hudson Taylor is one of the most unique athletes I have spoken with. He is 36-2 on the mat, obsessed with magic tricks and a dedicated activist. Though straight, Taylor is a huge champion of gay rights and even wore a Human Rights Campaign sticker during competition. “For me and my [...]

Weekend hot jock: Ted DiBiase, Jr.

Wrestling fans of the last 30 years will know the name Ted DiBiase. For fans in the ’80s and ’90s, it means the Million Dollar Man, Money Inc., and bodyguard Virgil. To fans of this decade, Ted DiBiase Jr. is synonymous with nearly naked hotness! The 27-year-old son of the Million Dollar Man has been [...]

Wrestling’s gay stereotypes have to go

Robert Skvarla, Inside Pulse‘s wrestling columnist, has written a fantastic piece about homophobia in wrestling. His premise: The use of stereotypes in entertainment is cheap and offensive, and wrestling should look long and hard at the constant labeling of gay characters as stereotypical heels. These stereotypes in some way all confirm society’s worst views on [...]

Weekend hot jock: Best of 2009

We featured several dozen athletes in our Weekend Hot Jock series this year, so we figured we’d start the new year with a recap of the best of 2009. Maybe the top standout was Minnesota wide receiver Eric Decker. See other top picks after the jump… Share on Facebook

Hulk Hogan: TNA going head-to-head with WWE

Our friends at TNA wrestling have set their sites on surpassing the WWE as the world’s biggest wrestling brand, and we’re going to get our first showdown on Monday, Jan. 4. Hulk Hogan, who is now part of TNA, announced Saturday night that TNA is going up against WWE’s Monday Night Raw. And while he [...]
