Charles Barkley: ‘I’d rather have a gay guy who can play than a straight guy who can’t play’

Charles Barkley gives an awesome interview to Mike Wise of the Washington Post, reacting to the news that Phoenix Suns President Rick Welts is gay. Barkley said he has played with gay players while he was in the NBA and their presence had zero negative impact. All he cared about was whether a guy could [...]

‘It Gets Better’ video against gay bullying airs as an ad during NBA playoffs

The “It Gets Better” ad done by Google for its Chrome browser, which received a lot of attention when it aired during “Glee” last week, is being shown during the NBA playoffs. I just saw it at halftime of the Chicago-Atlanta game on TNT. The video, which advocates against bullying, is reaching a demographic heavy [...]

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson has a theory as to why visiting teams fare so poorly in the NBA playoffs: They are shy about being seen in their underwear: “You have to remember these men are out there in their underwear, in their shorts. These aren’t like the old days but they are [...]

Bulls-Celtics awesome, Sixers far from it

Last night’s NBA playoff action featured a tremendous display in which the Chicago Bulls forced a seventh and deciding game in their first-round series against the Boston Celtics with a 128-127 triple-overtime win. Of the six games, four have gone to OT, with a total of seven extra periods. Absolutely classic. And then there was [...]

Sports getting all a-Twitter

Josh Smith was making a comeback from an ankle injury and the Atlanta Hawks are battling for first place in the Southeast Division, but no one in Atlanta seems to be noticing.  Ball Don’t Lie has pictures from last night’s Hawks-Grizzlies game with a crowd that can be generously called sparse.  (Picture after the jump) [...]

In 2003, Out magazine named Eric Millegan “Hottest Up-and-Coming Openly Gay Actor of 2003.” He’s best known for playing Zack Addy, a regular character during the first three seasons on the Fox TV series Bones.  Millegan is now indulging his passion for the NBA — and his beloved Portland Trail Blazers — with “Eric Millegan’s [...]

Sixers attendance: dismal

I was at the Wachovia-soon-to-be-Wells-Fargo Center for the 76ers-Knicks game tonight, as was Jimmy Rollins of the 2008 World Series Champion Phillies. (No, not together — he sat courtside while I was, well, not.) With so many people in the sports complex for the finish of the Phillies’ parade, the 76ers came up with a [...]
