It seems that it mirrors that being considered by the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority, which wants to ban certain words from text messages.

Intrepid Internet sleuths who examined the proposed PTA list noticed it was identical with the NFL’s list. As Deadspin noted:

The list included phrases like “Rae Carruth,” “Neon Deon,” and “He Hate Me,”— all things that would be strange to text in a casual conversation in Pakistan because they all have a lot to do with the NFL.

The PTA is now deferring implementing the list after it has met with much derision and confusion. The list we published in 2005 came after we reported that the NFL would not allow “gay” to appear on personalized jerseys (but did allow ones like “Gay Nazi”.) The league reversed it decision the next day.

The proposed move by the PTA seems incredibly silly and impossible to implement, and you know people will discover all sorts of euphemisms to get around it. But it is very funny that someone in Pakistan, obviously trolling the Internet for dirty words, stumbled across Outsports and used the list.

Moon told the Victor and Matt Sports Podcast on Radio Exiles in May that he wouldn’t have had a problem with an openly gay teammate and is virtually certain he had gay teammates in the NFL.

I think I have played with a couple of players who have been gay. I know of a couple of players, who I won’t mention their names because they have not made it public yet. It really doesn’t bother me what your sexual preference is as along as you don’t bring in your sexual preferences to the locker room. I think that should be for homosexuals and heterosexuals. That’s a personal part of your life you should deal with in that way. As long as your coming to the football team and bringing a positive influence, that’s all that matters to me.

I suspect one of those teammates was Ernest Givens, a star receiver with the Oilers in the mid-1990s and the subject of rumors back then even before the Internet took off. Givens addressed the issue with ESPN in 1998 and denied he was gay.

I’m not gay, but there’s a rumor that’s out there, and there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it.

Givens said he was called “Ernestine” and accused by others of hitting on younger receivers. In the ESPN interview, he sounds like he had a fairly miserable experience with the Oilers over the issue.

It was nice to hear Moon’s comments and he’s another prominent athlete who has addressed the gays in sports issue recently in a positive manner.

The headline is a mashup of two terms used by Willie Colon, a Pittsburgh Steelers teammate of Ben Roethlisberger, who was with the quarterback in Milledgeville, Ga., the March night he was accused of sexual assault by a 20-year-old in a bathroom of a bar. Roethlisberger was not charged.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation report, obtained by The Smoking Gun, describes how Colon, an offensive lineman, was being pestered by women at one bar who wanted to get to Roethlisberger through him. This is where the “gay” part comes in.

“Colon got up because he felt this was ‘gay’ and he did not want to be used by the girls to communicate with Roethlisberger,” the report said.

I am not sure how this is “gay,” so someone please enlighten me. Unless gay is a general slur used by Colon to describe anything he doesn’t like. When Big Ben and his group headed to the next bar (the Velvet Elvis, where he was accused of the sexual assault), Colon got even more upset.

When Roethlisberger’s posse later relocated to the VIP room of another club, Colon was not happy with the male/female ratio, terming it a “sausage party” because “there were too many males in the VIP room and not enough females.” To rectify the problem, only women were allowed into the exclusive section. As Colon explained, “that was because [Roethlisberger & Co.] often had to deal with jealous boyfriends, and found it simpler to keep them out.”

I had never heard “sausage party” before, though I immediately knew what it meant. Sounds like a great title for a Colt video.

Roethlisberger, though not charged with any crime, is still expected to be suspended any day now by the league or team for inappropriate conduct.

So let me set the stage. Jerry Jones spends $1 billion dollars of his own money to build one of the most beautiful stadiums in America. They’ve solved a bunch a problems with the old stadium, including how to close the roof during inclement weather. Jones spared no expense to prove the point that everything’s bigger in Texas… including the scoreboard. The 140 foot long hi def scoreboard is the first one to ever be hung in the center of an NFL stadium, and cost roughly $30 million to construct and hang 90 feet off the ground. Everything was in place for the first pre-season game to be a showcase of the new stadium. Then Jerry Jones met Titans punter A.J. Trapasso.

During the first pre-season game at new Cowboys Stadium, Trapasso made a routine punt that bounced off the giant scoreboard. No one knew what to do. Ultimately they did the play over, but time had run off the clock. So this week, the NFL clarified what is to be done. Instead of making Jerry Jones raise the scoreboard, they’ve instituted a stupid new rule, for this season, where if the ball hits the scoreboard, the entire play has to be done over and time has to be reset.

Now, to give you some idea of why this rule sucks, let me tell you a story. Growing up in Miami, I went to the Orange Bowl to see the Dolphins play. I was sitting in the upper bowl of the stadium, around 20 rows up. I’d estimate that I was about 120 feet or so above ground level. Reggie Roby thunders a punt that I watched float up from the ground, up to eye level, raise up another 5-10 feet or so and then go screaming towards the ground. I took a quick second to look around, and you could see the entire section followed the ball up and down like it was a tennis match.

The point is, I have no doubt that basically any NFL punter (and most of the kickers on kickoffs) should be able to boom a ball 90 feet upwards, if so required. So, expect to see about 4-5 do-overs a game in Dallas. Oh, and expect to see the rule re-visited when a smart quarterback realizes he’s out of options and tosses the ball straight up in the air, hits the scoreboard and gets to do the entire play over again.

And since the Super Bowl is being held in Dallas next year, Jerry Jones had better figure something out between this season and next. How do you think the NFL would like it if a play like Eli Manning’s Great Escape was negated because it dinged the scoreboard?

Some people don’t quite get Twitter. Okay, I don’t really get it myself, even though I dabble in it. But I digress. The idea behind it is to give your friends, family, and anyone else who cares to follow you brief updates (on your life, your interests, or whatever you want to promote). The emphasis is on the word brief — hence, the 140-character limit.

If you want to issue a press release or if you just like to run your mouth, Twitter isn’t the place for you. This brings us to sports agent Drew “Next Question!” Rosenhaus and this week’s Sports Tweet of the Week…using the word “tweet” loosely. One of his clients, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin, has been unhappy with his contract for quite a while now. Boldin’s been trying to either get a Larry Fitzgerald-level salary from the Cardinals or get traded to a team willing to make such a renegotiation. The Cardinals have continued to refuse both options. This led to Boldin’s firing of Rosenhaus last week. Drew’s response, as discussed on Philly.com, came through Twitter:

We are pleased to announce that we re-signed Jeremy Shockey. Regarding Anquan Boldin, I have great respect for him. I’m hopeful..

Wait, what does Shockey have to do with it? And where’s the rest of the message? Ohhh, here we are…the entire message consisted of five separate tweets, all posted in a five-minute span on Tuesday. Here are the other four:

that we can work things out and he will return to the Rosenhaus Sports family in the near future. We are proud to continue to represent..

his brother D.J. Boldin. We would also like to announce that we have signed Will Allen to a 2 yr extension with the Dolphins worth $16.2

million over the next three seasons.

Will’s deal includes $10 million in guarantees.

So Rosenhaus is trying to make himself look good by talking about his happy (for now, at least) clients and trying to foster some family drama by mentioning that D.J. Boldin isn’t following in Anquan’s footsteps. Above all, he doesn’t understand the Twitter concept. By the way, those last two tweets could have been combined into one, Drew.

With so many athletes and other sports figures jumping onto the Twitter bandwagon (and odd little stories popping up as a result), I think it’s time for a new feature: Sports Tweet of the Week. I hate using the term “tweet” for the maximum-140-character messages, but I guess I’ll have to go with the flow…and it’s still better than calling a video a “vlog.”

So, for the inaugural STOTW we feature one Terrell Owens. The Dallas Morning News reports he’s officially thrown another quarterback under the bus. A fan said that he was unhappy that the Cowboys released Owens, who is now with Buffalo. T.O.’s reply:

neither ws i, blame the OC & romo!! but i’m happy 2 b where i am but i miss the other guys tht were & r true teammates!!

“OC” is a reference to Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. Romo, of course, is QB Tony Romo. I guess this is no longer a testament of T.O.’s true feelings:
