Cole and the WWE have released the requisite apology, saying it was not “meant as it was taken.” Right. I’m sure he meant to say, “You are so strong and amazing, an inspiration to every American.” I’m sure that’s what he meant by calling the guy a “faggot.”

Last week GLAAD had highly publicized a new partnership with the WWE; So far it’s not going as planned, but it is going as expected. The WWE failed to post anything about their fight against homophobia, including the statement they released on the subject, anywhere on their Web site. Now this (which they have again failed to acknowledge on their site). Looks like that bridge is still for sale…

Forgive me if I’m doubtful. You don’t erase decades of hate and anti-gay taunts with a couple meetings and a press release that you don’t even post on your own Web site. In fact, WWE didn’t even post the release under the press release section of their corporate site! There’s a message from Jon Cena (one of the alleged perpetrators) about Japan, but not a word about fighting anti-gay discrimination. I’ll believe they’ve changed their tune when I see it.

It is fake, and I’m sick of explaining it to you. Go watch high school amateur wrestling, and never once consider how “gay” it looks.

Not quite sure what to make of that. I never look at wrestling and think how “gay” it looks. It looks like wrestling. I suppose some may find it homoerotic, but gay?

“Yeah man, those are dudes in tights, bro. And they’re grabbing at each other’s junk. It’s gay, man.”

Either way, I’m not sure what Stroud’s point was. Maybe someone else can translate for me?

These stereotypes in some way all confirm society’s worst views on homosexuals. While a character like ["Exotic" Adrian] Street may have been progressive in his portrayal of a gay character as a strong figure, he was almost always characterized as a villain, never allowing his character to grow beyond the one-note representation he initially offered.

He does a fantastic job of chronicling the history of “gay” and effeminate characters in wrestling, dating all the way back to Gorgeous George of the 1950s.

He also talks about the inherent homoeroticism of wrestling, and how professional wrestling doesn’t have a problem playing to it.

It would be hard not to notice the homoerotic undertones that are present in the world of professional wrestling: nearly-nude men with oiled bodies and pristine skin/hair/physical traits grappling with each other to assert dominance; a figure like Sigmund Freud would have had a field day with these sort of sexual contractions. It was also be hard not to notice that the most successful wrestlers the industry has ever seen were also the most conventionally attractive; while early on wrestling promoted the likes of tough guy everymen in the vein of Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes, eventually it grew into preening bodybuilders like Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, and the Rock.

Wrestling fans everywhere are mourning the death of popular wrestler Umaga, who died of a heart attack over the weekend at the age of 36. I hope all those kids thinking about steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs read that over and over: Dead of a heart attack at 36. We don’t know if his heart attack was because of past steroid use, but we do know the premature death of other athletes and wrestlers have been due to the drug use. Kids, it’s just not worth the risk.

After seeing the video I realize some inappropriate comments were made and I apologize if I offended anybody. Just know that everyone on stage was having a blast and we all shared a drink and a laugh after! The good news is I got my wish of being posted on TMZ.

No matter how you look at the original comment, GLAAD got it right.

Vince McMahon in typical understated, classy fashion had this comment on ESPNews today: “…obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25 date for a potential playoff game.”

Officials are trying to work out the snafu, my guess though is Denver gets to complete their sweep on Tuesday.

The 2009 Royal Rumble is in the books and the winner, punching a ticket to the Wrestlemania main event, is Grade-A stud Randy Orton.   Storylines may intercede, but as it is right now, Randy will get to challenge the WWE champion of his choice (either Edge or John Cena) at Wrestlemania XXV in March.
