First-Ever Gay Soccer Tournament in Italy
The
International Gay &
Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA) broke down barriers by
holding the first ever gay soccer (football) tournament in Italy.
The twelve team tournament, hosted in Milan by local team
Nuova
Koas Milano on Saturday, February 4, attracted teams from all
over Europe, and the USA. As was the case during the IGLFA World
Championship in Copenhagen in 2005, a French team won top honors .
This time, a team from Lyon defeated the world champions Arc-en Ciel
from Paris. Two host teams from Milan did well in taking 3rd and 4th
place. The women's division was dominated by teams from Croatia, who
took both 1st and 2nd place. Teams from Hamburg, Barcelona, Berlin
and a mixed team from USA and Europe also participated.
The IGLFA Board of Directors held a meeting in Milan to discuss
outreach programs for Latin American, Eastern European and Lesbian
teams. They also considered cities for the IGLFA World Championship
in 2007.
