Chris Morgan, the current reigning Gay Games Powerlifting
champion, has qualified for his fifth British Championship
Final.
He was lifting in the South East Divisional Championships,
held in Sunbury, England, Feb. 11). He needed only three of
his nine attempts to win his weight class (75 kilo) and to
make the qualification standard for the national
competition. The British Championship Finals are to be held
in May and are a qualifier for the World Championships to be
held later this year.
'I'm very pleased to have qualified for the British
Championship Final and to have the opportunity to earn my
place in the England Team for another year," Morgan said.
"It's satisfying to able to qualify for National
Championships with such ease, as it's important to save
energy for the battles ahead. This years British and World
Championship Finals are both going to be extremely
challenging. I'm now faced with 10 weeks of hard work in
preparation for the British Final and I'd like to ask the
whole of gay community for their support in my effort to win
another world title.
"t means a great deal to be representing England and the Gay
Games at elite level in competition. I'd like to thank the
Federation of Gay Games movement for all their support, plus
also like to thank the Football Association and my kit
sponsors Umbro for their commitment to fighting homophobia
in soccer."
Morgan's next competition will be the British Drug Free
Powerlifting Championship in Tamworth, Staffordshire, May
5-6.
