Dogos win gay soccer title

Dogos of Buenos Aires defeated the defending champions London Stonewall, 1-0, to take the Division 1 title at the IGLFA 2007 World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The team from Argentina proved to be too skilled and too quick for the London side and earned the win at Estádio do Defensores de Belgrano. San Francisco Spikes overcame the Florida Storm to take third place. In Division 2, West Hollywood outlasted the London Titans in a penalty shootout to win their division while the Philadelphia Falcons won against the Chilean team to take 3rd place.

Group winners in the preliminary rounds that featured 28 teams were Boston (USA), Amerika (ARG), Dogos SN (ARG), Florida Storm (USA), San Francisco Spikes (USA) and Dogos RN (ARG).

Attention now turns to London and the Leftfooters Football Club, who will be hosting next year’s IGLFA Championship in London from 24-30 August 2008. IGLFA is still accepting bids from cities for the IGLFA 2009 Championship. The Gay Games in Cologne, Germany will serve as the Championship in 2010.

The IGLFA Board made two changes to the organization this year. Ray Nasser is now the IGLFA Treasurer and Norberto Selasco is handling corporate sponsorships.

The IGLFA Board members are:
Tomás Gómez – President
Klaus Heusslein – Vice President
Ray Nasser – Treasurer
Mikey Collins – Secretary
Phil Sheats – Marketing and Public Relations
Dave Ravall – Referees
