U.S. swimmer Amanda Beard totally dissed Michael Phelps when asked if the two were dating: “Eww, that’s nasty … Come on, I have really good taste. He’s really not my type.”
“I have never, ever hooked up with Michael Phelps,” Beard said via telephone from Beijing on the “Johnjay and Rich Show,” which is broadcast on Kiss FM 104.7 in Phoenix.
Beard, who has bared all for Playboy and appears in a sexy ad for PETA, also said she has never even kissed the 14-time Olympic gold-medalist.
Phelps also denied that he was dating Beard, though he handled it in a much more diplomatic fashion, telling the TV show “Extra”: “I’m not dating Amanda Beard. I’ll say that. I think she has a boyfriend.” (She is dating a photographer).
Realizing what a total b**** she sounded like, Beard later issued an apolgy via People: “Everyone who knows me knows I can be a jokester, but I guess I took it too far. I never meant to say anything rude about Michael. I am 100-percent sorry for what I said. I take full responsibility for it.”
So, Beard says that Phelps makes her go “eww!” A champion swimmer with a body of death and a crooked grin? If Phelps decides to ever play for our team, I know several thousand Outsports readers whose reaction would be anything but “eww!”

Good for her, I’m just disappointed she had to issue the standard bullshit apology that no one is really demanding. “I never meant to say anything rude about Michael”. But you did! How about accepting responsibility for *that* and saying “Hey, I’m entitled to my opinion, deal with it”. Funny how being asked whether she’s his fuck buddy didn’t extract an apology from the people trying to get a “gotcha” moment.
And you know as well as I do Jim that if he didn’t have that body, “thousands of Outsports readers” wouldn’t give him a second glance, in fact, he’d be mocked endlessly for his face and those satellite dish ears.

I think Phelps is good-looking and you can’t separate the bod from the man, the same way one can’t separate the Anaconda from Jim Thome.

I still can’t get over the difference between the “two looks” of Michael Phelps. When he’s in the pool immediately after a race with the cap still on, mouth closed, wide eyed looking up at the scoreboard to check his time, his face is stunning. But when the cap comes off, the mouth is agape showing all gums and teeth, eyes squinting he is almost unrecogonizable to the guy in the pool.

Why is Amanda Beard news right now for saying she doesn’t find Phelps attractive? She has pimped herself horribly over the past year as sex symbol for this kind of attention. It would have been way sexier if she showed herself as a top US athlete. I am not in anyway diminishing her past performances but she seems to have lost her focus. The Olympics is a chance to show your best athletic performance and instead she uses Beijing as a place to market her body. Cause or not my guess is she wears some killer leather boots in the winter to show off those toned legs. I am just disappointed.

Frankly, I think Michael Phelps has a great body. I wouldn’t describe him as “eww!” But I don’t think his face is all that attractive. I guess it is scandalous to think that, but I really have never thought he was all that good looking in the face. If Amanda Beard thinks he’s unattractive or not her type, who really cares?

Why do people feel the need to diss Michael Phelps? He has through dedication and focus achieved something no other athlete has accomplished. But rather than laud his accomplishments, people want to say he doesn’t meet there standards in the looks department. THis is one of the reasons gay people are seen as shallow and ingenuous by many straight people. If he’s not your type, keep it to yourself, you probably aren’t any better looking, but if you are, you are not very attractive inside.

I think Amanda was caught off guard by the dating question,and it was the first off beat thng that a normal GUY or GIRL would’ve said.. His body,swimming ability,and medals are attractive but not his face.. Sorry but when you are caught off guard by a question, and answer honestly, then you should be admired for TELLING THE TRUTH! Nowadays too many people lie!! How about credit to someone that doesn’t lie for a change,instead of giving a pat on the back to liars…..
