Mitcham wins gold!

August 23rd, 2008 · 76 Comments

In one of the biggest upsets at the Beijing Olympics, out diver Matthew Mitcham won a gold medal in the 10m platform. The Chinese were heavily favored in the event, and Mitcham was behind Zhou Luxin by about 35 points going into the final dive. But Mitcham hit an unbelievable score of 112.10 on his sixth and final dive to win by just over three points.

“It’s absolutely surreal. I never thought that this would be possible,” Mitcham said.

“I wasn’t even sure of my medal chances at all. After I did my last dive and I saw I was in first, I thought, “That’s it, it’s a silver medal, I am so happy with this’ and then I won. I can’t believe it, I’m so happy.”

The win capped an amazing journey for Mitcham, who had quit diving two years ago battling depression and burnout.

“Coming back and doing everything I did was to win an Olympic gold medal,” Mitcham said. “When I was training every single day, twice a day, eleven sessions a week, thirty hours a week before every single dive I said to myself; ‘I want to win an Olympic gold’. “It was all worth it.”

Mitcham’s win denied China a sweep of the the men’s and women’s diving gold medals. On his final dive, Mitcham to decided to go for broke, attempting a routine with a high degree of difficulty — a back 2 1/2 somersault with 2 1/2 twists. He nailed it and scored a stunning 112.10 points, getting perfect 10s from four of the seven judges.

The door to the gold was left open when the previous diver and leader, China’s Zhou Luxin, flubbed his last dive, a reverse 3-1/2 somersault in the tuck position. He got a quite low 74.80 score, which put Mitcham in front by only 4.8 points. How close was it? Zhou’s score on his last dive was seven points less than his second-lowest scoring dive of the round.

In the crowd watching his day for ages were members of his family and friends and his partner, Lachlan. Mitcham celebrated, cried and laughed as the results were announced.

Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times described the scene after: “Not only did he quit diving, but he battled depression and then took a big step, coming out in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald earlier this year. The first thing he did in the mixed zone with print journalists was hug the reporter who handled the story with particular sensitivity.”

“Being gay and diving are completely separate parts of my life,” he told journalists. “I’m happy with myself the way I am.”

Exhausted, Mitcham let the moment sink in.

“My cheeks hurt from smiling, my face hurts from the chlorine, my legs are sore from jumping up and down,” Mitcham said.

“I’m in pain and I’m tired, but I’m so happy.”

I’m watching the diving on tape right now (CBC), but cheated and checked the results on the Internet. Congrats Matthew Mitcham–stunningly breaking up the Chinese stranglehold on diving. http://en.beijing2008.cn/news/sports/headlines/diving/n214579862.shtml

  • 17 Dan // Aug 23, 2008 at 1:15 pm

I caught it live and it was fantastic! At the beginning, it almost looks like he’s going to be struggling for any medal. (The Chinese, Cuban, and Russian Divers started out strong.) But he nailed the final dives. Especially the last dive with difficulty at 3.8. What a good show. Olympic Champion wow! And he’s such cutie too… lol

  • 18 Joseph // Aug 23, 2008 at 1:55 pm

Hearty congratulations Matt! You’ve managed to make us all proud, regardless of where we come from. You’re an inspiration and a great man. Cheers from Mexico!

I wish somebody would post the video of Matthew being given his medal.  The BBC didn’t show it!  the Aussies in England want to see his glorious moment.
Please can you post the medal ceremony video.
    Thanks

  • 20 Dan // Aug 23, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Hi Kate, Radio-Canada (Canada’s french network) has the whole event in full. Go to:
    http://pekin.radio-canada.ca/pekin/plongeon/2008/08/23/001-10mhommes-finale.shtml
Go to the end of the page and click on L’intégralé de la compétition. The medal ceremony is at the very end of the clip. There’s also an interview in French with him. (Under Entrevue avec Mitcham; the boy knows French - lol - wow.)
As this is a Canadian site, I hope you can access it from outside of Canada. Hope that helps.

Congratulations Mitcham. I watched the match on tv last night. I couldn’t believe that you were doing so well with a 3.8 difficulty dive.
I am Chinese, after Zhou Luxin lost tht gold medal ,he was abused by many many guys online. I read the comments on 2008.sina.com.cn, and most of them are scolding Zhou for it is unbelievable that he could lost the gold medal like this.

Anyway, Mitcham is the 2nd homosexual after loganis in diving.
Wish u good luck in future

I’m watching the West Coast feed (it’s about 9:20 pm here) and the announced said this after the 5th round dive by Matthew:

“That’s not going to threaten gold, but that’s going to keep Mitcham in the top 3″.  D’OH!

I loved the “Woah!” sound of awe from the crowd after his fifth dive.

Congratulations to Matthew Mitcham, gold medalist! :D

TO cHIKE, he is special because he won an olympic gold medal not because he is having sex with other men. This is a gay site and that is why his winning gold is especially special here. Way to go MATTY!

  • 31 bobby28091 // Aug 24, 2008 at 5:06 am

good job son( god bless) you done your job well ..im a weight lifter i have won 6 golds so far we are what we are …

  • 32 Chike // Aug 24, 2008 at 5:26 am

This man is not gay he is simply living a lifestyle where he has decided to have sex with men not women and he happens to be winning a gold medal. This is the same thing as if a man decides to steal and steals often, happens to win a gold medal. The crook winning a gold medal is no different then the man engaging in a adulterous lifestyle winning a gold medal. It is good that he wins a a medal but it does not make his adulterous and dangerous lifeestyle any better. The same as if a thief winning a gold medal does not make his chosen lifestyle anything to be proud about.

  • 33 fdirecto // Aug 24, 2008 at 5:58 am

    btw, bravo Maatttheeewwww!!!!

  • 35 fdirecto // Aug 24, 2008 at 6:08 am

Chike, what are you doing on a gay site, when obviously you are not gay?  First of all, the only thing we “choose” to do is have sex.  It’s who we have sex with that is NOT a choice.  Now, we who “choose” to have sex with other men do not ask to be treated “specially”.  We just want to be treated equally, like all human beings deserve to be treated.  As for your comment on the Olympics being a family oriented show, a lot of gay couples with kids watch this show too, and they do not announce who people are having sex with.  And it wasn’t our “agenda” to have the articles on how promiscuous the olympic village is. You are entitled to your opinion, but I just don’t see why you’re doing it on this site…

  • 36 Dan // Aug 24, 2008 at 6:37 am

Wow, he’s gay, he dives, he won a gold medal. Big freaken deal. Straights are doing it too. You make it sound like he’s handicapped. Everyone knows he is gay now so you don’t have to parade him around the world like he is some kind of freak.

  • 37 Susan // Aug 24, 2008 at 6:55 am

I am from “outChristian” and grateful to be one. You cry persecution from every arena today. I refer to the article in the News link I followed here. I think-I said I, I speak for me ALONE- I think it’s a pitiable situation when a person, man or woman, homosexual or heterosexual, is not just simply celebrated on their God given talents, which enabled them to achieve such levels of merits seperate from anything else they Choose to do or be apart from God. Not what they do NOT so privately today not only before the entire world? But before the One and only Creator God  whose Laws will forever remain Unchanged no matter how many MEN seek to change them to salve their collective consciences. On that Day we all will stand alone. The rest of us as well.  Congratulations to this young man for his gold medal for his wonderful talent. In the swimming arena. He, I am sure, deserved the win.

Congratulations dude, you are exceptional, keep the faith and hope alive. You have shown many of us what it is to be gay in a world that is not accepting. Again congrates.

  • 41 CarlR // Aug 24, 2008 at 10:15 am

Some seem to think that people are praising him because he is gay and won gold- I don’t think that is it. It is that he is open and now young guys now have a role model for how they can be open about their lives and still compete in sport. Matthew- Congratulations. The only other time I was so moved in these games was watching Dara Torres. Your joy in both the competition and your life was visible for all to see. It moved me.

    this is just plain gross.

  • 44 PhilFortLauderdale // Aug 24, 2008 at 10:59 am

There is something you religious zealots have failed to realize by no fault of your own, that people of oppression need role models and positive reinforcement. Now, you never had to even think that your “orientation” affords you a privilege you take for granted every day of your life, you’re simply not aware of your privilege. You never had to deal with a society that misunderstands the meaning of being gay, you say its “choice” to sleep with other men. This begs the question, since your str8 and haven’t made this “choice”, what kind of guy’s turn you on? Maybe this is a duhh moment for you that you’re not wired this way. But the final realization is that you have no idea that the sex part is but the spark to the important things we as humans all require, love, affection and companionship. Rather than strip us of our humanity by characterizing us as only sexual beings, understand we’re not so different you and I.
This is why Matthew is so important to not only us, but all of humanity. His success shows how being gay is transcendent and allows us all to understand we’re not so different, in fact we’re all one. Even though you hate us, you’re still our brother and I will pray for your enlightenment. Matthew, you make us proud on so many levels. Much love from Fort Lauderdale!

  • 46 papa smurf // Aug 24, 2008 at 11:45 am

haha wow. please do not get angered by what i say until you have heard me out. i will not continue to argue this point because it seems a mute point because homosexuals are 99% of the time so set in their ways that they will argue with a brick wall, however i will say it once. please…do not waste your prayers on my “enlightenment” that is bull crap. but instead pray for yourself and that God himself will shed light on your current “orientation” or whatever have you. that He will convict you of your sins. I do not care to hear about how hard it is for you to live in a world that does not accept you or any of that garbage. the world as we know it today accepts homosexuals more than ever. and that is purely wrong. yes, i am posting this on a gay site… I DONT CARE. im sure it will spur a whole new line of arguements and replies haha. We are not all the same, nor are we one. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ, no more no less. And God has made each of us different. However, he did NOT

  • 47 papa smurf // Aug 24, 2008 at 11:49 am

make anyone gay. that WAS and IS your choice. and you can change that whenever you want, at any point that you want. No homosexualaity is not just about having sex with another person of the same sex. But it is purely having a relationship with someone of the same sex….That is what makes “straight” and “gay” people different. And that is the evil involved in a homosexual relationship. Call it what you may, but this all comes from the Bible, God’s Holy Word. I know there will be arguements, but if I did not stand up for the truth, that would make me no different from anyone else. I will pray for y’all. God Bless

  • 48 PhilFortLauderdale // Aug 24, 2008 at 12:19 pm

Ok guys, first, There is more to this planet than one religion.  There are many paths to the creator and our own peaceful reality.  But let’s face it, hate is hate.  You say you “don’t care”, well buddrow, that is the point, you don’t and you rationalize your “commitment” to your god with your disapproval of anything that is not in line with your rhetoric.
You as a sentient human being have the right to own your views but that doesn’t make them any less ignorant or hateful.  You say you’ll pray for us, well, I totally accept your good will as this is what Jesus would have us do.  Jesus never said anything about being gay, never had a lesson on it nor condemned it.  I guess you have come to believe the convenient hate and prejudice you’ve been taught from your wonderful religion; you’ve been a good student obviously.I will continue to pray for your enlightenment as this is what Jesus would have done.  I will also continue to thank, support and praise Matthew for his incredible honor, courage and athletic commitment and how he is inspiring generations of Gay Men and Women around the world with his accomplishments.  This is the real reason for this forum, not rhetoric and hate.  You have my prayers my friend, even though you have been led astray.  Be well.

  • 49 Paul Z // Aug 24, 2008 at 12:48 pm

What is funny to me is how these bigots neglect the two teachings of Christianity that state that they should love thy neighbor and not to judge because that is God’s job.  Also read the original Latin bible and you will see how many things were changed and mistranslated to fit the needs of the churches.  Many historians now believe that Christianity warped certain passages about adultery and other things to be against homosexuality and other people because they were not producing children to replenish the “flock” of the church.  It is amazing how ‘God’s word’ has changed over the centuries. Now I will get back on topic since it has strayed.  Congrats Matt on a job well done.  Just ignore what a few people have written here because I am sure you are a beautiful person on the inside regardless of what thoughts that these zealots seem to have in their warped little minds.Sincerely,Dr. Paul Z Dr. of Theological Studies

  • 50 Chike // Aug 24, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Paul that verse about not judging, Jesus is not telling us that we should not say anything to somebody who is committing wrongful acts. No Paul. Jesus is saying that if you are reacting critcially toward somebody you better make sure that you are not guity of committing the same act. I Timothy 5:20 says that those who sin are to be rebuked publically so that others could be warned. II Timothy 4:2 tells us to preach the word all the time , correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and careful instruction. To see someone living a lifestyle that Christ looks down upon and will eventually lead to death and not say anything or worse yet , lie to the person and encourage the wrongful act is the definition of hate. The Bible plainly tells us that a man should leave his family and find himself a wife. Nowhere does Jesus ever encourage anybody to live a homosexual lifestyle. I Corinthian 6:9-12 plainly tells us that people who continue to live a homosexual lifestyle will not enter unto the Kingdom of God.

I saw this guy on TV and though he might be gay by the two handed wave he gave to the camera at one point but honesty; who really cares if he’s gay!?!?  He’s just a guy doing what he loves to do (and is obviously damn good at too!).  Way to go Matthew!
On a side note much empathy to gay people for having to put up with these christian morons pushing their morality on everyone.  I rejected my family’s christian beliefs long ago as superstitious nonsense and their constant harraasment of non-christians is my proof that I was right to do so.  Hopefully religion will die out eventually as people get better educated.

Thank you so much for posting all of these wonderful articles about Matthew. What a heartwarming and moving moment. I had tears in my eyes watching and was surprised by how much emotion I felt. Congratulations to Matthew for his amazing achievement! His confidence, ability, skill and determination manifested into feats of true athletic beauty. His smiles of joy after each dive were mesmerizing and watching him jump into the stands to hug his mum and partner was amazing. He has much to be proud of as a diver and as a gay man for standing courageous and coming out. He is without doubt and an inspiration to all. Bravo Matt!

Nuget and Paul, thank you for speaking up, you boys are my Sunday hero’s!  Paul, you were very correct about the miss translation of the bible from the original text.  Words were changed to suit the agenda of the men of the times.  The original text in Leviticus that say in the new testimate, laying with another man is an abomination is a TOTAL miss translation.  The original text meant that laying with another man was “not typical” and had NO connotation of wrong behavior.  I’m happy I replaced my Catholic upbringing with a universal spirituality that supports everyone and their respective beliefs.  Being inclusive is the message, hate is NOT!  Thanx for speaking up guy’s, thought I was the only one.

FUCK NO!! Could the religious freaks just shut the fuck up so not to spoil this amazing moment? They can stick their false morality up their arse!! I’m so sick of those fucktards! Sorry for this ranting but that was my first reaction after reading some of those abhorrent comments, like that Chike bastard’s. It’s a huge shame, since I’m a Catholic and I love God above everything…but I’m not a detestable bigot and I do believe that God loves us all and I don’t think He hates people because who they love. A couple of man & woman, man & man, woman & woman are equal to God’s eyes and what they share is love, which’s always welcomed and blessed by Him.
Point made. Now back to the subject…OMGYES!!! I’m just in a state of shock…I was overexcited and couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Matthew winning the gold medal, cos I thought that Chinese lad was going to make it, since he was getting all 1st’s round after round. God, that was like..wow, really! I knew he was going to do something huge at the Olympics. I’ve been following him since I’ve learned about his come-out story. You must have the balls of steel to do that, much more when you are a top athlete in that stereotyped, macho-fuelled and sickeningly homophobic world that is the sports world. And he just proved that you can do it amazingly…that you can break that prejudices of shite and win prizes/medals/trophies. I’ve admired him since then. Congrats Matty, you were astounding in Beijing! And you have a bright future in front of you! Keep the gold medals coming! LOVE YOU MATTY LAD!cheers from Peru, Miley :)

  • 56 Chike // Aug 25, 2008 at 4:09 am

God loves everyone of you guys, but hates sin. In order to obtain a relationship with Him, you must deny yourself and follow Him. That means living unto His purpose and will not your own. God detests homosexuality. There is no way around it. Heavan is not a free for all. It is not a place where everyone is accepted regardless of how each one spends his or her life. Jesus holds us accountible for our sins. We have a choice we can either choose to ollow the world’s philosophy of everyone for him or hersef to rule over our lives or we choose to follow Him. 13″Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-15
38and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Matthew 10:38-39

    You little ripper Matty!!! Congrats.
And can all you religious freaks just shut the fuck up and let the man have his moment. Who cares what the hell you, your stupid books or your non-existent god think. And WTF are you doing at this website anyway?? Just looking for places to spread more of your hatred, prejudice and bullshit????

Homosexuality is not a sin. I am Christian and gay. As stated above, the passages often cited are mistranslations, not to mention that the passages from the Old Testament contain many rules intended only for the ancient Jews (such as forbidding people from wearing clothes of two fibres). In the New Testament, Jesus never spoke against homosexuality and the passage often cited in Romans by St. Paul is a mistranslation: there is no ancient Greek word for homosexuality, instead the word “malakoi” is used which means “soft.”

Congrats from Ireland.  We got 3 medals which was great, but I also feel ownership towards Matts medal. I punched the air when I heard.

Well it seems to be a bit odd that you call Christians haters and say we are judgmental bigots. When in reality we are not talking down to you, we are not judging you, we do not hate you, and we are not cursing at you.We are simply promoting the Word of God and trying to spread His teachings and guidelines for our lives. All the while, it is YOU who always get extremely defensive, have a closed mind on the situation, and chose to ignore any sense of reasonable logic that comes from Christians mouths. To simply say “there is no god, period” is to close your mind totally on the situation and rule out any and all possibilities. Yet that is the same accusation homosexuals use against Christians all the time. Furthermore it is YOU who then slander and bash us, call us names, cuss us out, and get utterly belligerent over anything we have to say. I attend a public university.  When a professor teaches that there is NO god or other things that go against my religion, I do not get all feisty about it. But when Christians say one slight thing against homosexuality, you are poised and ready to go off on us in a heartbeat. You then try to take every angle that you can to finagle the Bible in your own view by “quoting” inaccurate “facts” about how the Bible has been changed.

  • 61 papa smurf // Aug 25, 2008 at 3:29 pm

The Bible wasn’t even written in Latin. It was primarily Greek and Hebrew. And if such an undertaking of rearranging scriptures to fit a governing societies customs had been done, do you not think that it would have been revealed on a large scale by now? This is the 21st century. The media would have gotten a hold of that information and blown it up all over new stands, billboards, internet, TV, whatever have you. And you know I am right. Yet you, who are in an unfathomable state of denial, are going to come back after my response with anger, malice, and more bickering. I do not care if you want to hear it or not. Because I am going to post it anyways, because although you may not want to hear it, there is a slim possibility that someone will hear what we have to say and will take it to heart. So again, I conclude that I will pray for you all.

  • 63 ricci // Aug 26, 2008 at 2:10 am

to papa smurf. pull your head in. god’s word was written by old men sitting round a camp fire in the desert. being gay is like being left handed - you’re born that way. anyway, why is it only straights that are allowed to love and have sex. why must gays remain celebate - just because some old fossils 2000 years ago said that god had told them - come on, this is the 21st century and u believe in all that crap?

  • 64 ricci // Aug 26, 2008 at 2:16 am

tell me papa smurf, what has happened to all the people born before christianity - not heard of christ? they going to your hell and be judged for their sins?

  • 65 Chike // Aug 27, 2008 at 12:34 am

Ricci, In the beginning, God created the Heavans and the Earth. Ricci, God created Adam and Eve. Both worshipped God. Christianity is the first religion and would be the only one if Adam had not sinned in the garden. Before Jesus died and rose again on the cross men had to sacrifice andimals and go through all sorts of rituals in order to be free from sin. Jesus Christ came down to earth as God in the flesh to live a sinless life and sacrifice his fleshly life on the cross for you and me. Now we have a direct path to Him. We just have to call on Him and remain faithful. To all those who call on Him with faith and earnestness He will be faithful enough to listen.
    The Word Became Flesh
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it. John 1:1-5

  • 66 Jeremy // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:02 am

Chike and papa smurf: The church itself is divided regarding homosexuality - there are many churches that accept gay people.
Being gay is not a choice, and people do not choose who they fall in love with. The Bible does not speak about love, nor does it speak about committed relationships.
Jesus himself never spoke about it, and the only references in the New Testament are very mistranslations from the Ancient Greek words malakoi and arsenokotai, which are difficult to translate and do not necessarily mean homosexual.
Only God knows who will be let into His kingdom, so let’s leave the judging to Him, shall we? I respect your opinion, but you must admit that you do not know with full certainty.
Let’s agree to disagree, and leave it at that.

  • 67 Jeremy // Aug 27, 2008 at 7:22 am

Sorry, that should read: very likely mistranslations from the Ancient Greek words

  • 68 Chike // Aug 27, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Jeremy we are talking about spending an eternity in either heaven or hell. Why not do your best in the present to live a life in eternity with Jesus instead of just leaving as you please and waiting til it is too late before you realize that was not a good decision.
God tells us who He will allow into the kingdom, those who LOVE and OBEY Him. We do not have to play a guessing game. All the information is available in the Word of God.
Stop using translations as an excuse to disobey God’s Word. How can someone who created the universe and you and me not be capable of creating a Book that is Just and is His Word. The Word of God is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, correcting, and rebuking. We can not just take the nice sounding parts of the Bible then discard the challenging parts and say that it was mistranslated just because we want to do our own thing.II Timothy 3:15-17
15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  • 70 Jeremy // Aug 28, 2008 at 1:56 am

Chike, you are ignoring the evidence that parts of the Bible are mistranslated and the vast differences that exist between the versions. The Bible may be the word of God, but the hand of man is responsible for passing it down and translating it into modern languages over 2000 years. It is a fact that there is no Ancient Greek word for homosexuality. So please, stop disregarding any possibility that does not agree with your opinion.

This isn’t the place for this, and I’d be more than willing to discuss the Bible with you somewhere else. Let’s just agree to disagree.

  • 71 Chike // Aug 28, 2008 at 7:30 am

The Bible is the Word of God Jeremy. The word homosexuality did not exist back in those times. That is why the Bibile states specifically that male on male sex is offending, perverted. That is one of th reasons why God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. That is why Genesis specifcally explains that a man leaves his parents ands joins his wife. Same-sex is explained as sin all throughout the Bible in many specific ways. Just because some people choose to ignore it does not mean that the Word does not speak against it. God is the author of the Bible. The Bible has not gone through any major changes. The King James is a good translation so is the NIV. Stop making excuses to continue sinning. God can make it right for you. You do not have to be a homosexual. There is a better way.

  • 72 Jeremy // Aug 29, 2008 at 1:03 am

Chike, I never said that I was homosexual. All of this is your opinion and you are entitled to it. The fact remains that there is strong evidence that these are mistranslations.
In just one example the Ancient Greek word arsenokoitai was translated as “abusers of themselves with mankind” in KJV but as “homosexuals” in NIV. The German version even translates it as “child abusers”.
Many Protestant churches now accept homosexuals for the way they are born and give their blessing to same-sex marriages. Not everyone believes it to be sin. I respect your opinion, but this isn’t the place to be debating the Bible.

correcting the first comment a tyupo on comment Aug 29,2008 2:38 am . I meant to write the King James version came way before the New King James Version.

  • 74 PhilFort Lauderdals // Aug 29, 2008 at 11:32 am

Thank you Jeremy for speaking truth.  This proves the point that if you do not fall into line with what the evangelicals purport, you are not worthy of opinion nor existence.  You are absolutely correct that the bible was miss-translated many time to support the needs of the times and in its most extreme case, the position and prejudice of the men that did the translation.
For Chike to not even allow varying views shows how Christians have earned the ire of many with their intolerance and self absorbed righteousness.  For anyone to not allow gay’s to have equality, relationships, love and companionship is the real sin.  I guess is so easy to preach when Chike doesn’t even know or appreciate his privileged existence.  You see, I truly appreciate my 22 year relationship with a great guy and how we have by example shown that love transcends bigotry.
I accept all religions right to exist and respect their views, but have come to know my view is equally as important.  This is the true creator’s way, free will is without restriction and without caveat, otherwise it is not free will.  Peace to all.

  • 75 Chike // Aug 29, 2008 at 5:42 pm

PhilFortlauderdale what facts do you know about the translation of the Bible? What do you know about our Lord Jesus Christ? You have no facts to show. The Word of God has been around since the beginning you are less than a 100 years old, but you attempt to sound as if you have more wisdom than the Bible. You speak out of your own pride because you rebel against God and would rather continue living a sinful lifestyle than heed to His careful instructions.
1In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. II Timothy 4:1-5.

  • 76 Chike // Aug 29, 2008 at 6:02 pm

Jeremy I do not care who it is or what they call themselves, but any church that tells you to disobey the Word of God and does not place obedience to God as a priority, stop attending that church. That type of church are leading people away from Jesus and confusing the Work of God which is simple and plain. Those people will be judged for their actions at a time of God’s choosing.
3Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 4For certain men whose condemnation was written about[a] long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
5Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord[b] delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. 6And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.
21″Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)
