Cuba’s Angel Matos earned a special place in Olympic History as “Dumbest Olympic Athlete” today. He was taking time out for an injury and he delayed too long getting ready to fight again. The referee ejected him and Matos decided to strike back. Jim Lampley said in his broadcast, “…Because after all, it’s the first rule in Tae Kwon Do: you cannot kick the referee in the head.”

Comedy Central sent us a clip called “Why Sexy Athletes Are Evil,” featuring Michael Phelps at No. 1. Spanish lights in synch swimming stir
August 19th, 2008 · No Comments
A controversy in synchronized swimming has erupted over the swimsuits of the Spanish team. What’s causing the stir? They want to have lights on their outfits. “It looks a bit like Christmas lights,” Spanish swimmer Andrea Fuentes said. “This is a very conservative sport … their excuse that is you cannot have accessories on your swimsuit, but they are sewn in. If you use those standards, sequins are a type of accessory.”
Synch swimming is already one of the more odd Olympic sports, but to add lights? Before you know it, the event will look more like IGLA’s Pink Flamingo than an Olympic event.

Beijing lights up the Big Apple
August 12th, 2008 · No Comments
The Empire State Building is lit differently every night, and almost always with reason. Looking up at the ESB last night, I noticed that one side of the building was lit in red and white; the other was yellow and green (right). For these two weeks, it’s in honor of the countries participating in the Olympics. Last night it was Japan and South Africa on the west and south sides. If you’re in Manhattan and wonder what countries the colors represent on a given night between now and Aug. 24, you can always find out at the ESB Web site. That final night, it’s all red, white and blue.

August 10th, 2008 · No Comments
Los Angeles Times sports columnist Bill Plaschke, a frequent panelist on ESPN’s Around The Horn, and the Chicago Tribune’s Kevin Pang tasted the finer side of Beijing cuising while there for the Olympics and decided to head over to one of the city’s penis restaurants. Said Plaschke of the ox penis he tried: “It’s very rubber, it’s got a little texture to it, but it’s really tasty. I guess I like penis.”
