Spillane wins first U.S. Nordic Combined medal

February 14th, 2010 · 1 Comment

Here’s a sentence I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to say: the United States dominated today’s Nordic Combined event at the Olympic Games. No American has ever medaled in the sport, which combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing. Today, in a sprint finish, the Americans crossed the line 2nd, 4th, and 6th, claiming the USA’s first ever medal (silver) for Johnny Spillane of Steamboat Springs, CO.

This result bodes well for America’s chances in the relay event on February 23. In the meantime, it will surely give a boost to American biathletes and cross-country skiers, who take to the same trails this week. (P.S. No thanks to NBC who showed not a second of the race live.)

    Hey Ryan:
No consolation, but I watched the event live on the NBC East Coast feed on Directv. If you have Directv, there is a way to buy NBC’s East Coast feed for like $6 a month.
