The staid, lame U.S.O.C. has struck again, forcing bronze-medal winning snowboarder Scott Lago to leave the Games after suggestive photos appeared of him. One shows a woman kissing his bronze medal strategically placed beneath his navel.
How shocking! A young, healthy, virile, medal-winning athlete having a little fun. And he’s a snowboarder. Those guys do nothing but train, sleep, drink milk and read the Bible. He needs to be sent home lest he sully the image of the U.S.O.C. Bribery is fine for these people, but not a jock having a little harmless fun.
From TMZ, which got the pics via Splashnewsonline:
He agreed to leave the Olympic Village on his own accord, but sources close to Lago tell TMZ he received an ultimatum from the U.S. Olympic Committee: either say you’re sorry and go … or get ejected from the Olympic Village.
Lago apologized but has kept his sense of humor and sent this Tweet:
“Got home this morning to all my homies,” he said on his Twitter site. “Such a good Olympic experience. Keeping my medal in a safe spot for now haha.”
Here are the photos from Splashonline that forced Lago to head home:

Buzzkiller here: This is just not appropriate. I think having one of those around your neck should be enough to pick up all the girls you could want. The medal on the crotch is totally disrespectful. You may not think the USOC worthy of respect, but your fellow athletes, one of whom died a few days ago trying to win one of those medals, do deserve respect.
I don’t care what he does in private, but if you do it in public where someone can photograph you, you have to accept responsibility. Being sent home is about the right punishment, I think.

The IOC invites X-Games athletes to attract a younger demographic, then gets all stunned when they act like X-Games athletes (Remember the Canadian snowboarder who got caught smoking pot?).
He had nothing to apologize for, nor should he have left the Games.

Did he break any official rules? If so, then punish him, if not, leave him alone. He put all the hard work into winning it - he should be able to do with it or use it in any way he sees fit. Besides, I’m more disturbed at the young woman’s behavior - she should have more respect for herself!!

So it is OK for the IOC to lay blame on a dead luge athlete and take no responsibility for a needless death.
But the IOC comes down hard (no puns intended) on someone enjoying their medal.
Well that medal would probably fit nicely up the IOC’s ass…

It’s a frikken Bronze medal. Not like it was even gold or silver. I wonder if he scored with that chick? That might be the basis for a penalty.

I admit that I’m not impressed with his behavior at all. But…Apology for the medal in the crotch, a bit stuffy, but I could live with it; the XGames mentality and the Olympic mentality need to find a happy medium somewhere. Sending him home, that was just wrong.

Apologize and go OR get ejected? What a set of choices.
I sure would like to get my tongue in his navel! He has a super-hawt body.

Scott Lago get a brain, dude. I agree with the first poster, Marc. There’s no excuse for this from any vantage point. What rubs my butt red is that with this kind if immature, selfish conduct enjoying such wide spread international coverage it’s what most of the world will now think of any American.
Put KY Jelly on the medal and get as kinky as you want to behind closed doors, but by God in public act like a man and show some dignity and pride. You’re not representing your own stupid ass, you’re representing the U.S.

While I DO think it was inappropriate, who really cares. If it weren’t for this site, I wouldn’t know it happened. Nothing has really changed now that I do know it happened.

It’s my understanding that after the “ugly American” crap at Torino, all the US athletes got an “appropriate behavior course,” Even an X-gamer should have been able to figure out that dangling his medal over his ‘nads and being photographed getting a bronze-medal BJ might strike some as inappropriate.

No one should be surprised by his actions, but they were still innapropriate. Seriously, grow up and show some respect.
As for the girl, well, some girls will do anything for attention.

What respect? Last time I recalled, sexual innuendo and playfulness does not bring disrespect.
It is your appallingly self-righteous, Puritanical minds that apply negative impressions to mere human nature.
Don’t go acting all dignified about sex when you go riding some dick at home. Doing it in private doesn’t absolve you of the negative if you’re ascribing it to the element itself.
If anything, I worry more for the girl. Who is she, and how will she be treated over this? I can already see the same kind of jackasses like commenters rip on her in her hometown/social circle.

What a bunch of puritanical hypocrites. You throw a party for a bunch of hot 20 somethings and they show up and act like a bunch of hot 20 somethings. Get over yourselves! Shame on the USOC!
This boy did nothing wrong, and has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of or apologize for.
I am sick of how puritanical America is becoming.
I don’t think this guy showed any lack of respect.

While I understand why Scott Lago was sent home, I honestly don’t agree with it.
Just as a comparison… Canadian Jon Montgomery won Gold in the Men’s Skeleton. Shortly after winning, he walked down the main street in Whistler towards the CTV broadcast centre - LIVE on TV as he’s walking some chick hands him a pitcher of beer. He starts drinking it as he walks towards the interview set.
He later auctions off a pitcher of beer on LIVE TV.
Here in Canada everyone is loving it. They replay it over and over as it’s a good “Canadian Moment’ at the Olympics.
I loved it and no one seems to have a problem with it. (I’m surprised no one has made a stink since drinking in public which is illegal the last I checked, and it was promoting drinking). Would the USOC have sent home an athlete for doing something similar?

The USOC is run by a bunch of holier than thou Mitt Romneyish republican assholes. To hell with them this kid did all the hard work to win the medal if he wants some skank to blow it he should be able to.

It’s kind of odd that people talk about his talent, about his earning the medal, etc. If an Olympic medal is about getting a BJ in public, then it’s not really worth much, is it? So let’s just stop watching this show which is about getting a piece of metal around your neck to serve as a chick magnet.
And sorry, there is a difference between public and private behavior. I’m not ashamed of taking a leak in the john, but I don’t think you’d like me pissing on you.
And is the USOC (sorry for those who want to attack the IOC… in this case it’s the USOC that’s in question) pure? No. We don’t have to wait until all injustice is done away with to condemn mistakes.
He can do what he wants with his medal now at home. But as long as he asked to be on the US Olympic team, he has to accept the rules and decisions of the USOC. No one is saying he should be stripped of his medal, pay a fine, or suffer any real punishment. He’s just been told that if he wants to use his Olympic medal as a sex toy, he’ll have to do it somewhere in the world other than Vancouver.
And please stop with the “puritanical American” crap. It’s a lovely cliché, but it’s getting old. I don’t approve of the woman’s actions either, but she’s not on the Olympic team, and its not her medal.

Punishment does not fit the crime in this case. Sit the kid down, talk to him about respecting the medal and the games, give him a warning about a second offense, etc. Then let it go and let him stay and enjoy the complete Olympic experience.

Puhleez! You people who think the ejection is appropriate need to go back to your Sunday school classes and leave the real world alone. Take your sanctimonious attitudes and go preach on a street corner somewhere. Honestly, he’s a young man living his dream. Since when did allowing a woman to go for it constitute bad behavior for a sports figure?

Weeell, from the look of that shot, he looks pretty comfortable being shot. So I could only assume that who ever took that knows him.
Well, who ever that is, seems to have BETRAYED him. In a strict sense, the shooter should be the one to be punished.

I agree that he needs to represent himself in a certain way but at the same time if he did NOT break a written rule then there should be no punishment. There are much worse things on TV and this is the least of our worries. You guys that say he needs to watch himself in public are asking a little much. I couldn’t imagine training like that hard then getting done and not be able to relax without offending someone. He shouldn’t have to hide who he is and change himself because then you wouldn’t be looking up to him you’d be looking up to the product of commercialization.

REALITY CHECK HERE: Scott did nothing wrong and I mean NOTHING. Its not like she had him in her mouth. My God people wake up unless you were all puritans you did stuff that most people would have considered inappropriate in your time. Thats right I am saying your time. Because most of you are acting like my grandparents who were pure and good and slept in separate beds and their children were formed through some miracle cus their no no spots never touched.
There was no crime here. As a matter of fact I have seen more flesh then this both in public and in bars. You all that are screaming foul need to realize times change and not everyone relies on Jesus for relaxation or enjoyment. Its a book people that was written well after the fact. This is reality, he may have gotten some, because he was happy and had worked hard. GET OVER YOURSELVES!
Great job! Congratulations on the medal. If I were you I would not get so frisky in public again wearing it or holding. You have already been punished to the extreme for not being a puritan so try not to let them see the bondage gear in the corner lol.

I’m really sorry if you all think that simulating oral sex in public is appropriate behavior, and that those who think otherwise are “puritanical”, “sanctimonious” “sick fucks” who need to “get over themselves” and “get a life”. I can only assume that they’re jealous of the girl (which I can understand) and are hoping that by accepting this behavior, by 2012 we’ll be up to the next level, that of an Olympic medal winner whipping out his cock and getting a blow job on the podium. And if anyone dares object to that, you’ll be ready with more insults.
Quite odd who those who are against being judgmental are so… judgmental.

Let him express himself as he wants as long as he’s not hurting anyone. This is how he celebrates? She’s having fun with an olympic medalist? well, how fun for them
YOU don’t like it? pfft, go have your own fun… but I guess conforming other ppl into your boring morals is the way you sick puritanical twats have fun
sure, olympics have some values… he’s not breaking any of them…

You know what to the people who DON’T agree with it…F off! Seriously…OHHH big deal, so he has a medal near his crotch…so what? People love to do nothing but BITCH about useless ignorant shit. They love to find SOMETHING wrong about anything. If he was showing his dick and doing it…then yes totally inappropriate but how many men AND women do the same thing and no one scrutinizes them for that in public? Wanna know why? It’s cause this guy won a medal and ohh lifted up his shirt and had a girl act like she is blowing him. BIG deal…all you people who worry about dumb ass shit like this…get a life!!

I am then surprised that all those who go on about how there are more important things to worry about* seem to worry so much this thread… Don’t you all have better things to do than worry about whether some people here have a *gasp* opinion on a public figure’s behavior?
Please, will you all go back to finding a cure for cancer or whatever you do that is so much more important than worrying about Scott Lago’s misbehavior.

A 20something year old snowboarder wins an Olympic medal, goes out, and has some fun with the chicks, and gets sent home. That’s just stupid. If I were him they would have to make me leave and then explain to the world why they made me leave. When I first heard of these “racy” pics I thought it was something serious, but then I saw them and I was like…is there more? He’s a freakin snowboarder for goodness sakes. We’re lucky he kept all of his clothes on.

Kissing a bronze medal is now considered a BJ? holy cow, so when I kissed a bronze medal I won in sack race in 3rd grade I was actually giving a BJ? I am such a loose and easy girl. I don’t care how you feel about the innocent, though misguided, pictures, this was not a BJ. More an inappropriate suggestive picture and should be called as such, you can even say fake BJ picture.

jpp, You are absolutely right! I am 66 yo, and watched every winter olympics since tv began. Enjoy your accomplishments, remember when you were young, enjoy the bursts of uncontained and sometimes regretable playfulness of youth. Enjoy the beauty while watching type A , more courageous and possibly less imaginative than I am, showing us their skills, while reminding us that the world is not all ocean beach front. Enjoy seeing some of the world’s best scenery too.

Okay, I’ve been thinking about this since it was originally posted. I’m not sure where the pictures were taken or under what circumstances, BUT, regardless of how tasteful/tasteless this picture was it by no means merited the dismissal of the athlete from the Olympic Games. There is no privacy in the world anymore. Anyone can take their phone out and grab a pic of any person.
So what if this insinuates oral sex. It doesn’t devalue the Olympics, the US, or really in my opinion, this athlete. The USOC should have said “Not cool Scott. We know you were having fun, but don’t do that again here. If you do, we’ll send you home.” I’m not sure where this goes against anything in the code of conduct he signed.
And I’m sure that half of the skaters, curlers, hockey players, etc. used foul language everywhere in Vancouver and were not subjected to dismissal. It would be great if he would sue the USOC….I’m not sure on what grounds, but the USOC seriously needs some reorganization.
