U.S. beats Finland, will face Canada for gold

February 26th, 2010 · 14 Comments

Who knows what the final score will be, but the U.S. men’s hockey team leads Finland, 6-0, after 13 minutes of play. It’s absurd. How do you say “quitting, choking dogs” in Finnish?

Update: The final was U.S., 6-1, which sets up a gold-medal showdown against Canada. Team Frozen North led Slovakia, 3-0, then allowed two third-period goals and had to hold on in the final frantic seconds for the win.

I don’t know but I predict a “bawling, inconsolable Jimmy” on Sunday afternoon bwahahaha!

I sat here at work watching that first period in disbelief, I really thought that Finland would come out really tight defensively. The first US goal was “cheap” from a Finnish perspective and it seems they never recovered.

Let’s see how Canada does later today.

The final was 6-1 and I missed all 6 goals thanks to the local transit system delaying getting me home for an hour.

    Bring on the Americans!

    GO CANADA GO!!!!!!!!!!

@Joe ~ Sorry to hear about your transit woes, please allow me to bring you up to speed…

All six goals were scored in brilliant fashion by Sidney Crosby. Historians are touting this as the single greatest Olympic accomplishment ever, considering Crosby plays for Canada!

Number 87 scored two of those goals while killing off a controversial five-on-one penalty, late in the third period…In a word: Sid-credible!

    You’re welcome! ;)

@Jimmy-Thanks for your encapsulating summary of your eyewitness accounting of wonder boy Sid’s feat!! Idk, I guess I was dozing during the game, rather than your rapturous attention thereto. Regret having missed this Olympic spectacle live-I only hope I can catch a replay of the game over the weekend. Thanks again for the heads-up!!!

    @Druggiebear ~ Dude, I think u misspelled balling! ;)

Canada didn’t look all that impressive against a very outmatched Slovakia particularly those last 10 minutes. Well Team USA is no Slovakia (when it comes to hockey anyways, the Great Recession makes this country seem Eastern-European grim more and more), and I predict a 4-2 US victory tomorrow as Canada finishes the choke job it started in the 3rd period last night!

oh and Jimmy I spelled it right, what kind of “balling” is on your mind?

@Druggiebear ~ Same kind that always is ;)

Canada has the gold! It’s so simple. All we have to do is get someone whack Rafalski really hard in the ankle and make it look sorta as if it could have been an accident. If the strategy aint broke…

Three hours to d-day, er, gametime. ;)

Just remember boys: it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game.

(And I’m happy that you can’t toss pucks at me through the internet. :) )

    Dear USA:

I’m Sure that your losing the hockey has come as quite a shock to you. But look on the bright side. Your crusade at almost winning in these olympics, which seems to be as important to you as actually winning, has been a complete success. USA! USA! USA!

    On behalf of Canada, Bwahahahahaha.

    Better luck next time.

I do enjoy the manner in which you have presented this particular difficulty plus it does give me personally some fodder for consideration. On the other hand, from what I have seen, I basically trust as the comments stack on that people stay on issue and don’t get started on a soap box regarding the news of the day. Anyway, thank you for this fantastic piece and whilst I do not agree with it in totality, I regard your standpoint.
