Genre Magazine
Relaunches With Sports Section
Genre Magazine claims to reflect
"How We Live." It's starting to do just that.
With the 101st issue hitting newsstands
this month, Genre has a new look, a new focus, and a new sports
section, titled "Jocks."
Cyd Zeigler, co-founder of
Outsports.com, has been brought on as Genre's sports editor.
Each month the magazine will feature two to three gay sports teams or
athletes. The February issue includes articles on the Colorado
Climax hockey team, the Golden Gate Wrestling Club in San Francisco
and Kevin Battistelli, a hockey player with the New York City Gay
Hockey League.
"It's rewarding to see a national
gay magazine finally take serious notice of the gay sports
world," Zeigler says.
The inclusion of a sports section shows
a change in attitude at the magazine. New Editor-In-Chief Andy
Towle has dumped the old "naked boys sell" mentality in
order to build a gay lifestyle magazine that truly reflects the gay
lifestyle. While there will certainly be enticing pictures
included in the magazine, the meat on the pages will be the stories of
real people living real lives.
Genre's "Relationships" issue
hits newsstands Jan. 20.
